Character › Talents: the Pathfinder tree
Every padlock on this screen is a Title away. Reaching the required level and completing the required Elite Training courses opens the title promotion assessment; passing it raises your Pathfinder Title, opens the next tier of the tree and raises your character level cap. Most nodes then cost Report Cards, and a node with several levels costs them again at each one.

Aniimo › Skills: learning a skill
An Aniimo learns from its own list and nowhere else. The list holds the skills that Aniimo carries itself, and when several Aniimo carry the same skill they always belong to the same family: a skill never passes from one family to another. Learning a skill costs nothing.
1 Open the Aniimo menu, pick the Aniimo you want to train and go to its skills.
2 Its Learnable Skills list shows every skill it can learn; one that is still locked reads “Unlocks when you obtain an Aniimo with this skill.”
3 Pick a skill and confirm the Learn Skill window: nothing is spent, and the game answers “New skill learned”.

Skill research: the skill is the Aniimo you catch
The Aniilog keeps a Skill Research page and a Rare Skill Research page, and the tooltip on a locked entry gives the whole rule: “Unlocks when you obtain an Aniimo with this skill.” So the shortest way to a skill is the Aniimo that already has it. 111 skills are researched that way, each within a single family, and 61 of them exist on a single Aniimo – miss that one and the skill stays out of reach.

Questions players ask
They have not been researched yet. A skill enters your Aniilog when you obtain an Aniimo that already has it; until then the learn list shows it locked, with the tooltip “Unlocks when you obtain an Aniimo with this skill.”
No. Learning a skill costs nothing, no Skill Stone and no Credits: pick it and confirm the Learn Skill window.
No. An Aniimo only learns the skills of its own list, and a skill that several Aniimo carry always stays inside one family. Form skills also wait on their form, and Helion’s and Lunara’s hidden skills on a promotion step.
Your 10 Active Skills are nodes of the talent tree in Character › Talents, and each one opens with a Pathfinder Title: Swoleshroom from the start; Heal and Aeroboard at Student I; Gravity Pull and Mega Mallet at Student II; Tweetin’ Target and Plushie Pummel at Student III; Revive at Wayfarer I; Bubble Gun at Wayfarer II; Go, Rubber Duck! at Wayfarer III. Once its Title is reached, most are learned with Report Cards.
Reach the level the next Title asks for and complete the required Elite Training courses: that opens the title promotion assessment, and passing it gives you the Title. The levels: Student I 25, Student II 35, Student III 40, Wayfarer I 45, Wayfarer II 50, Wayfarer III 55, Trailblazer I 60, Trailblazer II 65. Each new Title raises your character level cap, and every Title up to Trailblazer I opens new nodes of the talent tree.
