What a Sparkling is
The same Aniimo, plain and then Sparkling
A Sparkling Aniimo is the same species with an ultra-rare glittering coat – the game treats it as a mutation an Aniimo carries (the Sparkling Sigil's description says so outright). It is not a regional form and not tied to weather.
The game states that Sparkling Aniimo may appear when Aniimo spawn, and catching wild ones is a real mechanic (it even earns Research Points).
The one item that turns any Aniimo into a Sparkling is the Sparkling Cube; for the wild odds, the calculator does the math. Track yours on the Collection tracker.

2 Earn the Windchaser Badge Catch every basic-form species of the Breezy Plains to earn the Windchaser Badge. It is the one boost the game gives a figure for, and it works in the Breezy Plains only: What the game says “Sparkling and Umbral Aniimo appear 50% more often in Breezy Plains.”

3 Stack the Nurture A Sparkling Essence given while Nurturing the Branch raises the chance of a Sparkling in the Group Appearance; the game does not say by how much: What the game says “Add while Nurturing the Branch to increase the chance of Sparkling Aniimo appearing.”

4 Hatch a guarantee A Sparkling Egg always hatches the mutation, a Wonder Egg hatches at least an Alpha or a Sparkling, and the Institute's Departure Sparkling Egg hands every new Pathfinder one for free. The egg system explainer covers the hatching loop.

5 Sparkling Cube: turn ANY catch into a Sparkling Wild Sparklings need no special device – but the Cube does something better: thrown at any Aniimo, it guarantees the catch and grants the mutation. Hatching with it guarantees a Sparkling too, and the game names its price: “Collect 1,000 Sparkling Crystals to exchange for 1 Sparkling Cube at an outpost vendor.” The Sparkling Sigil grants the mutation to an Aniimo you already own – see the toolkit. What the game says “Sparkling Aniimo may appear when Aniimo spawn, and some special eggs can hatch into Sparkling Aniimo. Throw a Sparkling Cube at any Aniimo to guarantee a successful catch and give it the Sparkling mutation.”

The rule that comes with it: The same mechanism exists for Prismana forms: “Ensures 100% inheritance of the specified parent’s Prismana Form during breeding.” What the game says “Ensures 100% inheritance of the specified parent’s Sparkling during breeding.”

The Sparkling toolkit
The items of the hunt, with the game's own descriptions:
Sparkling Cube guaranteed catch, grants the mutation An upgraded version of the Aniipod Ultra, created by a genius. Some Pathfinders believe that its design transcends mathematics and is instead metaphysical.
Sparkling Sigil grants the mutation A mark wrapped in a strange glow. It holds the special energy needed to grant an Aniimo the Sparkling mutation.
Sparkling Egg guaranteed hatch This Egg pulses with powerful energy and shines with a bright, sparkling glow. Guaranteed to hatch an Aniimo with the Sparkling mutation.
Wonder Egg Alpha or Sparkling An unknown Egg with exceptionally strong life force. It will hatch into an Aniimo with at least the Alpha or Sparkling mutation.
Departure Sparkling Egg starter gift A departure gift from the Institute to the Pathfinder. It pulses with powerful energy and shines with a bright, sparkling glow. Guaranteed to hatch into an Aniimo with the Sparkling mutation.
Sparkling Pigment changes the look A sigil wreathed in shifting colors, holding the rare energy needed to change an Aniimo’s Sparkling Hue.

The glow comes in 12 named looks: Sparkling Type I through X, plus two the game itself keeps hidden. A look belongs to the whole family, not to the one Aniimo you caught, and the Research screen keeps track of which ones you have already met.
